This Les Paul '59 Reissue comes from Gibson's Custom Shop True Historic line. It has no visible play-wear. (outside the Tom Murphy Aging) This guitar is a spectacular example of the master craftsmanship that is synonymous with the Gibson name.
This piece was especially made for the Japanese Domestic Market and was shipped to Japan right after production. It has been collector owned and unplayed, so it is in pretty much mint condition. It has an incredible, vintage correct flamed maple top that has tons of character and is not over the top. It actually looks like a real burst. The first thing you notice is the very nice Murphy-spec rounded 50's neck shape. Without question the neck on this guitar is one of the best and most accurate I have ever played. It's nearly identical to the neck of my vintage 1958 Les Paul Junior single-cut, maybe even nicer. It fits my hand like a glove, very comfortable. The pale white neck binding is gently rolled and the frets are a nice medium size, not to big, and not too small. The Murphy-spec top carve doesn't play second fiddle to the neck. The guitar's maple top carve has the quintessential dish shape of a '50s Les Paul, unlike any other Gibson Historic Les Paul I have ever played or owned. Although this guitar is not a "flame monster", the maple top is nonetheless a very nice example of Eastern maple without any annoying mineral streaks or blemishes. I heard somewhere that Tom Murphy selected the wood for the tops, necks, and backs for this special run.
It goes without saying that the Murphy paint job is a masterful example of Tom's finishing work. His aging is second to none and overall this is a stunning example of what Mr. Murphy is a legend for.

ABOUT THE TRUE HISTORIC:
The True Historic 1959 Les Paul Standard is considered by many to be the pinnacle of Gibson's mid-century solid body electric guitars. At first a commercial failure, the '59 was adopted by some the world's greatest players like Duane Allman, Eric Clapton, Mike Bloomfield and countless others years after it was discontinued by Gibson. Today, one of the less than 700 originals built commands hundreds of thousands of dollars. It has just been deep cleaned and detailed. The frets were dressed/polished and the fingerboard was cleaned. (Unfinished Rosewood and Ebony boards get treated with the magical Fret Doctor- a proprietary oil that is the best on the market) It was professionally set up and has brand new strings, the action was adjusted and it plays excellent. All the electronics work as they should.
