Mullets, Camaro's and Rock Music... the 70's were kick ass for too many obvious reasons. While not all the American guitar manufacturers of that era were making what we look back on and consider "their best" product lines, Fender did hit fools gold with the big CBS headstocks, slightly hotter pickups and three bolt necks with "bullet" truss rod adjustments. While not every vintage purist is a fan, there is a growing legion of players and collectors alike who admire and revere the better examples that were produced over that decade of decadence. In fact, by the mid 80's, Fender started to re-issue these funky guitars as demand for them in Japan started to skyrocket with the popularity of players such as Richie Blackmore and Yngwie Malmsteen soared.  Here's an amazingly cool 1972 Stratocaster re-issue that was manufactured in Japan by FujiGen between 1985-86. This piece features a very resonant and lightweight Ash body finished in in a classic vintage natural finish. The ash body is loaded with three alnico 5 single coil pickups with white covers and flush pole pieces. These pickups deliver the quintessential early '70s Stratocaster sound with plenty of funky quack and clarion Blackmore-esque tonalities. The neck has a profile measuring 0.80" at the 1st fret and 0.86" as we move on up the 12th fret. The fretboard has been scalloped by a highly skilled Japanese luthier. I am not sure when, but it was before it arrived here in the US. The neck is dead straight and very clean with a nice maple fretboard and is topped with vintage style fret wire and 21 frets. The neck attaches to the body via a historically accurate 3-bolt pattern and is topped with a set of Gotoh tuners. Cosmetically this guitar displays a little play-wear. There are a few dings, dents, nicks and scuffs on the body, and there are a few little dings and finish chips on the fretboard, but overall the guitar is in very condition overall for being 40 years old. The guitar features Fender's storied "bullet" truss rod and "micro tilt" neck adjustment that functions well and has plenty of room left for adjustability.

Everything about this guitar echoes quality and authenticity. The tone is inspiring and the feel is loaded with mojo. If you've been on the hunt for a killer '70s style large headstock Strat, here is the clear winner. This guitar is like a freewheel burning,...designed for full on rock and roll with a vengeance.
